Could someone please tell me the species of this bird, please. This photo was taken yesterday in Cape May County, NJ.

Hi, your bird is a breeding female red-winged blackbird. Where the males tend to be more visible in spring, early summer, the females tend to be more discrete. They do show and if still nesting or brooding it is a sign there may be a nest nearby.

I tend to think it is a breeding female. The area where I took this image is absolutely overrun with RWBs. The males constantly divebomb much larger birdsand I have seen them carrying nesting material.
The mystery appears to have been solved. Thanks to all who assisted with the ID.
