The sensor on Nikon's mirrorless cameras is quite small. The quality of the images and high ISO performance will disappoint relative to your D7200.

You should look to at least a M4/3 sensor camera or a DX. Panasonic Lumix has several of the former and the Sony a6xxx is famous for the latter.

I wish Nikon would come out with a decent mirrorless. But so far they do not seem to get it.

Remember the Canon M5 and M6 also. You can mount Nikon lenses on them too.

I can highly recommend the Fuji X-Pro2 or X-T2, both of which I own. I got tired of carrying the weight and changed out all my Nikon gear last year to move to Fuji and I could not be happier. I was shooting with a D800 and D7100 Nikon. I cannot debate that the D800 was the best camera I ever owned but the Fuji X-T2 is very close for a 24 mp vs 36 mp camera.

Like UHH member "Jbat", I heartily recommend the Fuji X-Pro2 or its younger (smaller, lighter) cousin, the fixed-lens X70. Both are capable of razor-sharp images, great color rendition and exceptional contrast. /Ralph

It all depends on how big you want to print. If you don't print larger than 8.5" x 11" you might be very happy with the J5. But note that it does not have a viewfinder. I regard Tom Stirr to be the "Dean of Nikon 1 Info." To see some of his Nikon 1 photos, including J5 photos, and other information on the J5 and Nikon 1 lenses, see Tom's website:

They are mirriorless.
M5 looks like a small DSLR and the M6 looks like the Sony. Both very small and light and easy to carry for a person looking to go small and the M series lenses are designed to match this philosophy of light, fast operation and compact.
They have the APSC format (Cropped) sensor of DSLRs like the 80D and have DPAF which is phenomenal.
Canon has a small M series of lenses that is growing but all EF and EFs lenses work fully on them with a small adapter and no loss of function. You can also mount nikon lenses since the 1950's as well as nearly all Canon lenses from the 1940's. A few of the last rangefinder series I believe might not have an adapter available.

If you want to downsize...truly downsize...while still balancing image quality...then m4/3 is where it's at. Small bodies, small lenses, big on features, some of which you won't find on bigger dslr cameras.

The em10ii is an excellent value right now at 449. The gx85 is close behind with a 12-32 and a free 45-150 for $700.
