If overall image quality is your desired goal, go for the DSLR. While not as convenient as a bridge camera with its all in one zoom lens, it has a larger, APSC sensor, performs better in low light, depending on the lens or lenses you have or will get. The bridge camera, and you mention the FZ200, is a decent camera, but has some shortcomings. I have that camera and as long as you don't want to make prints larger than 8x10, you're fine, but it has autofocus issues when zoomed out and when trying to focus on low contrast targets, like over water, or the sky. It also struggles in low light situations. As long as you can live with those things, it's a decent camera. You might also consider a mirrorless camera system. If cost is a consideration, it's hard to beat the Sony A6000 with its two kit lenses, the 16-50 and 55-210 zoom lenses. They're not the best lenses in the world, but they're still pretty darned good. It's a very affordable kit. The benefit is that you get the same performance and features of a DSLR, but in a smaller, lighter, less expensive package.

Forget what he said. Go with the Pentax. You may want the K70 though.

Canon T6 puts you in the largest professional level system with some of the finest lenses available. And these lenses are generally less expensive that lesser lenses pretending to be as good but charging substantially more.
The system is still the most advanced as a whole of all the systems and every EF lens ever made works with your T6 since the inception of the EOS system 30 years ago so if you find an old EF lens it will work 100% perfectly with your latest T6. Canon is starting to get serious about mirrorless and all your T6 lenses will work with the mirrorless as well. If high resolution is your goal some day the 5DSR is the only high resolution DSLR or mirrorless in it's class. All others fall short and the Canon lenses take advantage of this capability. Canon has patented some pretty incredible stuff lately too. PS if you like video as well the EF mount is an industry standard for both Canon pro video cameras as well as notable and incredible cameras like Arri. Architecture, Canon has the widest range of TS lenses available. Their 11-24mm WA lens has no peer and smokes primes in the same width class.
You just can't go wrong with the T6 as it does not limit you.and if you stick with it alone it will still serve you very well.

I didn't address the Pentax as I am not familiar with Pentax DSLR's, although I understand they are very good cameras. I guess the point I was trying to make was that if he is looking for overall high quality images, he should go for a higher end camera, such as a DSLR or a good mirrorless system. Oh, I forgot to mention micro 4/3--great camera system.

Given those two options, I totally agree with Architect1776. The Canon choice allows you full access to a great family of lenses that protect you from near term obsolescence.

Quality will depend upon the quality of the sensor, lenses and a few other things. Whether mirrorless or DSLR is dependent more on size, weight, electronics - such as EVF - and so on.

Although I am a long term Canon user I would not recommend the T6. The T3, T5, and T6 are cost reduced models with limited growth capability, typically using older technology than their 'i' series cousins such as the T6i or T7i. If looking at DSLRs other than Canon do look at Pentax and Nikon.

Get a Panasonic mirrorless like the gx85...they've a deal right now that includes a free lens.
It's a great camera and system and is on par with aps-c sensors

I was a Canon user 1995-2015. I moved from Pentax to Canon in 1995 because the Canon EF-mount lenses truly are special. I moved back to Pentax because I was disappointed in Canon Rebel bodies.

If you are truly interested in Canon, I would recommend you look at the T6i, which is definitely a step up from the T6.

All recent Pentax bodies, including the lowly K-50, are Weather Resistant(*), as are the lenses that go with them; to my way of thinking, that is a big advantage, because it means you don't have to think twice when taking your camera anywhere not currently under water. I have a K-30, predecessor of the K-50, and thoroughly enjoy it; both cameras have In-Body Image Stabilization, which means you don't have to think about stabilization when you are looking at lenses. The one downside to those two models is that they seem to have a build-quality issue that may show up a couple of years after you get your camera, so I would recommend you include extended warranty when you price one.

Just as I recommended that you look at the Canon T6i, I would also recommend that you look at the Pentax K-70, which replaced the K-50 in Pentax's lineup last year; for one thing, photographs from users show that it does deliver good high-ISO images.

(*) good in rain, snow, sleet, blowing stuff - but not actually submerged.

The one Pentax weakness is the low number of Brick&Mortar places currently carrying them.

Even Panasonic cameras are difficult to find anywhere (Target, Walmart)

Also Olympus, which formerly was another well-known standard.

I guess the market's procedures are {unintentionally} protecting Canikon.

Why does one need a brick and mortar store when there a plenty of good online stores with good return policies?

Besides bh, adorama, and amazon will be the least expensive.

Look at bsilva comment above. B&M introduce many to a brand; if they don't start with Olympus/Pentax, they're much less likely to switch later
