I bought this flash unit as a graduation gift for a friend and the foot that goes into the hot shoe was not connected to the bottom of the speed light. It's for a Canon DSLR. When I bought the Yongnuo for my Nikon, the foot was already attached. I can't figure out how to connect it and the graduation party is tomorrow. Any help would be much appreciated.

PS: The owners manual says absolutely NOTHING about assembly.

Sorry.... Looks like a defective unit. All the parts aren't even their. To fix it you would need the 3 other screws and you would have to take apart the base of the unit.

Where did you buy it?
Was it new?

This is broken. I have one that the screws came loose on and it sprang apart. Lots of tiny rods and springs flew all over the place. Bad design. Costing £50 for repair!
If you bought it on eBay via PayPal you should be able to get a refund if the description indicated it was functioning okay.

Call 911 or your local camera store and get a Nikon flash unit.

Just to say that this is unusual for this Yongnuo flash, many of us have them and speak well of them and their value for the price. Hope all goes. well for you.

Did you have to assemble the foot of your unit when you first received it?

You bought a broken unit. Someone probably dropped it when it was attached to a stand or camera.

I have a couple of Yongnuo Flashes. They are of good quality. Yours is however defective. I always buy stuff from Adorama or B&H as they take care of such issues quickly.

I own a Yongnuo I bought last year and never have had a problem with it so far.
