Adobe Photoshop Elements 12

I recently replace my PC with a model running Windows 10. When I loaded "elements 12", everything looked normal until I attempted to open the "organizer". At that point I got an error message saying, "Directx/Directplay could not be initialized. Be sure that it is installed on your system." I have no idea what that means. Can anyone give me some insight as to I should do next?

How did you convert to Win10? Upgrade from previous OS or a clean install?

You need PSE 14 or later. Might be a good time to think about installing a trial version of Photoshop CC to see if it makes sense for you. Or just buy a new version of PSE and be behind the 8 ball again down the road.

I purchased a new PC and the company transferred data from my old Windows 7 machine.

I got a similar message, an error message of some kind, when I loaded my new copy of Elements 14 onto my new Windows 10 PC. I continued the install process (it didn't stop me from doing that) and Elements is running fine. It has its own glitches as did Elements 11 but nothing I can't live with.

I upgraded to Win 10 from 7 during MS free one year period and the process was seamless on my laptop & desk top. My version of PSE 12 on both machines is running perfectly.

Yeh, that's the ticket. Just dig into your wallet.

I have PSE 11 and PSE 14 on a Dell w/windows 10 and no problems. You do not need a newer version. Take a peek at this page.

But if you are running 11, who am I to argue.

Direct X is a program that deals with imaging. You might be able to download the version needed for free. Did you download PSE 12 from the disc or some other way? It should download automatically from the disc when loaded that way.

Wikipedia has an article on Direct X. The download should be free from Microsoft. Apparently it has been included on every version of Windows from Vista onward. If the error message requires a particular version you should be able to download that version. It is a compliment of graphics engines.

I had a Toshiba laptop running 8.1 then 10 when I bought PSE11. When I got PSE14 I started having issues. The worst being freeze ups if I tried to run them at the same time. When the Toshiba died I bought this Dell and Photoshop CC2017 and reinstalled both PSE versions. I have not had any issues so far (8 months).
