There is a spot or two not far from my house where herons and egrets gather annually to nest and raise their young. These areas are often referred to as rookeries. I like to go them, because there is always a lot of action, and a number of different species of birds there. Here are 4 shots of BIF from yesterday.
This is a young cattle Egret testing his wings. Soon he will be making actual short flights around the pond.
Adult breeding Cattle Egret
A Snowy Egret looking kind of windblown.
Young Cattle Egret getting pretty good at staying airborne.
Excellent series of photographs.
Well taken.
Fantastic captures, Mike!!! They are such beautiful and graceful birds and I do love seeing them... but not the one a few years ago that helped himself to 6 of my koi!! From that day on, we keep the pond netted 24/7.
Have a wonderful day, my friend!!
Excellent series! These are lovely shots!

Such wonderful compliments Angela; I sure thank you, and appreciate your thoughtful remarks. My cousin has the same problem with the egrets and herons that you do. He lost several Koi to them over the years. He too, he has his pond netted.

wow mike...fantastic captures of those beautiful big birds, and how nice the rookeries are near where you live!
Man! I must be tired! I read your tittle as "Wright flyers". Ha, ha! So, you know what I thought I was going to see. Still, I am glad I opened this up for I think this is an excellent series and the photography well done.
