First off I realize there's a lot of input of the D7200 vs the D7500 here and in other places. I've been looking at this for several months now and turned up the effort when the D7500 was announced so I'm somewhat acutely aware of how they compare. I came close to pulling the trigger a couple of times on getting the D7200 so I did give this a lot of thought. I'm strictly an hobbiest and have been shooting with the D5300 for over three years now (which I will keep as a back-up/mission specific camera). I made the price difference secondary to what I wanted the camera for.
I went over to Best Buy this morning to pick something else up and discovered they got the D7500 in soon than they had anticipated. I'm pretty excited to start reading up on how to get the most out of this camera (being retired offers a bit more extra time these days)... The factors that made the difference was the ability to shoot in lower light without a flash, the FPS factor and the better sensor. The loss of a card slot was not a factor one way or the other. I shoot a wide variety of things so other factors were a mixed bag of plusses ans minuses. I'm sure that with my 63 yo eyes, I won't see much if any difference between the pixel factor.
In early August we're taking an 8 day cruise to Alaska and I really want to photograph some bald eagles. Our itinerary should allow for this. In the mean time I'll start playing with it later today and see where it goes from here. I'm also eager to see how it will perform at the Capital Air Show in Sacramento in September. I'll post an impression once I develop one, but again, I'm a hobbiest and I just shoot for the pure fun of it...
Congratulations on your purchase. Have fun with it. From everything I've read, you've bought a great camera.
I was debating whether to upgrade my D7000 with either the D7200 or the D7500. I went with the D500 instead.
Awesome. I see that it has an Fn1 and Fn2 button on the front of the camera. Those are great for frequently used functions. My D500 has an Fn1 button on the front and the Fn2 button on the back. My D7000 only has one. I assigned Group-area AF to the Fn1 button and My Menu to the Fn2 button.

Don't forget the touch screen. You can advance your shots, enlarge them by spreading your fingers apart while touching the screen. The D7500 will run rings around the D7200 in low light. You my friend have made an excellent choice, has MANY of the features of the D500 for hundreds less. Please don't let some folks here discourage you as SOME folks here are calling the D7500 a dumb downed camera, which, it is clearly not. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.
I recently saw a video on this camera that compared the D7500 to the D500. I had been very biased towards the D7500. But, after seeing this particular video, I saw things about it that I liked. No, it does not do 10fps, but 8fps ain't bad either. And it does have some features that are superior to the D7200. If only it had dual SD slots, it would appeal to me. I would still rather wait and save my pennies and get a D500. A D500 is about $550 more than the D7500. It's worth the wait for me, as I already have a DX camera.. And refurbished D500s will be even a better deal. I do wish the D7500 well. And I hope you enjoy your new D7500.
Thanks for the input everyone. Being old and cranky, I'm not concerned about what anyone else has to say that is not of value. Being a former TQM instructor the only person's needs it needs to meet is mine. I did take a good look at the D500 and again came back to the D7500. I could have easily afforded it (Being on Social Security means I can buy most anything I desire...). I take pleasure when people find what they want, ergo the need for many, many options.
I was busy yesterday, but had some time to play with it some. The touch screen rocks. With it I can blow through the multitudes of menu items to get what I want quickly once I get a grip on what's where and whatnot, a really big plus. I will also get some good use out of the articulating screen. I have a couple of decent lenses. My two favorites at the moment are the Nikkor 18-200 f3.5-5.6 II and a Sigma 150-500 1:5-6.3. Both have been serving me well and will give me even more with the D7500. I took a few pics with the 10-200 yesterday and am very favorably impressed with the image quality. I took a few long shots and close-ups. The Bluetooth feature also rocks as I can instantly load my pics onto my iPad using SnapBridge. This makes for quick viewing, especially good when traveling. It having only one card slot is not a problem for me, The best protect there will be to not use junk memory cards. Jerry, thanks for the links. I will check them out.
I will be taking my time to learn this camera will and look forward to doing so. I loaded the manual into my iPad and iPhone so it'll always be handy. In short, so far I'm pleased with the purchase...
The D7500 is truly going to be a great camera. You have made a fabulous decision and yes, the only person it does matter to -- is you. The GAS has come and now is being let out with each use of your new camera. Now the time has come for you to get out and practice by shooting. With each picture your joy will keep expanding. Have fun and enjoy. Awaiting to see some photos from your new camera.
