According to fujirumors.com, Nikon is in big financial trouble. There are potential investors from China, Korea and Taiwan but the Japanese government would prefere a Japaneses "white knight". Fuji is being considered for that role.
The key operative word in this post is "rumors".

I don't think Nikon is "in big financial trouble" as cameras, lenses, and other photo gear make up only a portion of Nikon Corp's business. Here is a sample of endeavors Nikon is involved in. From Wikipedia:
Nikon's products include cameras, camera lenses, binoculars, microscopes, ophthalmic lenses, measurement instruments, rifle scopes, spotting scopes, and the steppers used in the photolithography steps of semiconductor fabrication, of which it is the world's second largest manufacturer. The company is the eighth-largest chip equipment maker as reported in 2017. The companies held by Nikon form the Nikon Group. Among its products are Nikkor imaging lenses (for F-mountcameras, large format photography, photographic enlargers, and other applications), the Nikon F-series of 35 mm film SLR cameras, the Nikon D-series of digital SLR cameras, the Coolpix series of compact digital cameras, and the Nikonos series of underwater film cameras. Nikon's main competitors in camera and lens manufacturing include Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Pentax, and Olympus.
I think Nikon is diversified enough that it is not in financial trouble. Don't believe rumors, especially if they are being put out by a competitor.
I don't see why Fuji would interested. It would just distract them and direct resources from their current efforts.

Actually Sony is in bigger financial trouble than Nikon.
Give me a break.
I work in mergers and acquisitions - with a focus on China and Japan.
Japan is a free market. The Japanese government has basically no say in who Nikon may get sold to.

In my special education class I would start a very easy sentence in the first row and have my special children would then repeat the story in a whisper to the student next to them until the story got to the last student. Then we would compare stories from the starting one to the ending one. Guess what ?, you guessed it.
Same with rumors all over the world. I used to work for Nikon, Nikon camera division makes up about 10% of the business, 10%. Folks, Nikon is not going anywhere. Have a nice day.

Two words ... National Security. The US has a free market but I doubt that our government would stand by and let
foreign nations hostile to the US, buy any strategic US company.

Let's wait and see. Whether they sell or not, My Nikon cameras will continue to capture some of the best images the world has ever seen (as far as I'm concerned).
