7DII set-up

I'm in the process of configuring this beast to best meet my shooting requirements and hope that one of you 7DII experts can tell me if I'm trying to do something that's not possible. I've switched the function of the DOF preview button to allow switching from AI Servo to One Shot, as I never really use the DOF preview function. Since with this camera I intend to use AI Servo most of the time I'd like to go to the One Shot mode when conditions warrant. In AI Servo I have high speed continuous shoot enabled. When I go to One Shot, however, high speed continuous is still functioning which more or less defeats the purpose of going to One Shot. I'd like to be able to go to One Shot using the DOF preview button but having the Single Shot function for One Shot enabled. Am I trying to do something that is not possible or is there a work around that I'm missing? Sorry this is so long winded.

Do you not have 1 or 2 custom settings on the wheel? Set custom #1 to your norm and custom #2 to the single shot scenario.

Yes, that's a possibility I considered and may have to go to ultimately. What I wanted was instant access via the button as opposed to having to take the camera down and moving the dial.

After switching a couple times it will become ingrained so no need to drop the camera down, same as knowing where that darn button is...

Unfortunately, going from high speed continuous to a single shot is not an available option in the configuration of any button on the 7D Mark II. Many of us 7DII shooters have long hoped this would be added into a firmware update, but so far nothing. Your only option is to configure one of the custom settings on your mode dial.

Probably the best way to go is with the custom modes. I keep my 7D in single shot with back button focus to toggle the servo function and have C1 set up to auto bracket for HDR and C2 set for high ISO, high-speed continuous, and servo focus for birds in flight, etc. This is not as convenient as a single button to toggle the functions but with practice you can dial to the custom modes without taking your eye from the view finder.

That's what I feared might be the case. Thank you!

Yup, first thing I did was to set that up. Been using it for years and would never go back.

Guess I'm in for some practice time. Thank you.
