The Wisconsin state capitol dome interior is really beautiful. I think capturing it is more of a technical exercise than artistic. FOV is really key since you can't go below the floor. For this shot I used a Sigma 8-16 rectilinear at 8mm, on a Sony a77. Handheld, but they do allow tripods. I love the glass mosaic tiles, but the glare from the cove lights tends to wash them out. I tried the shot with a polarizer but the results didn't have the same impact as this shot, so the glare must be adding interest. It was a cloudy day so the windows are blown out. I want to try the shot on a blue sky day. Fisheye might be good too. It's fun to watch the kids play in the dome. They lie down right in the center and look up. Some groups put their smartphone on the floor in the center, then all bend over the phone and say "cheese" (appropriate for the state).
Beautiful image for sure. Reminds me of our state Capitol. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting shot, welcome to the Hog.

That makes a very fascinating and colorful photo. Well done!
Thanks guys, if you look closely you can see the Plexiglas observation deck below the windows. Here's the view looking down from there. The 8-16mm is a fun lens.
Cropping the image to a square helps to define the symmetry. Love shots of cathedrals and domes. Well done.
A beautiful place indeed. Great job working on these.
It sure is beautiful and you did a good job capturing it, JD345!
