Beaufort South Carolina is a historic place and the claim to fame is the "Great Skeedaddle". The Union Army shows up in the harbor with 10,000 troops and Beaufort has 200 volunteers, so the town was abandoned in 4 hours. This is why the buildings were not burned and became the hospital post for the Union Army in the south.

great photos and historic comment; I'll have to go there again some day. Last time, just an overnight at a marina aboard a Mississippi style paddlewheel boat I was transporting to Tom's River, NJ from Ft Myers FL.

I love the coastal area of SC...I lived in Charlestown for a number of years and that's another beautiful city to photograph. Your photos of Beaufort are wonderful! I especially like the the Mutant Oak Tree. It amazes me how the trees can grow like that, definitely in the southern region.
Thanks for sharing and allowing me remember some very happy memories of SC.

Beaufort is a beautiful city and worth a trip for the photo ops there. Nice series.
