I found this on the back of a hole splattered leaf. I thought it was the culprit although the lack of movement and willingness to stay still while I took a 64 picture stack left me a little doubtful.
To my inexperienced eye it looks like a long dead ant caught in a spider's web. However, it also looks like it died with it's boots on. To my ageing eyes this was just a shapeless black spec. the wonder of macro.
Good shot...good ant (the only good ant is a dead ant). ;-)
i think whatever killed it took its boots off,how cruel, suck your blood out and take your boots off :) good shot
Probably died boozing and carousing.
Which focus-stacking program are you using? On enlargement, I see scores of duplicated lines (web silk, leaf hairs, etc.).
Ha ha, funny. Just call him Custer.
Thanks for taking the time to look and comment everyone.
Douglass: I agree it’s not the best of stacks but I thought the subject was worth sharing. I think the issue can be put down to movement during the shoot greater that Zerene Stacker was able to correct during processing.

Yep. It died with its boots on and they're going to bury him on Ant Hill.
