Can't get image loaded , maybe later....

You can't upload pictures to this forum that exceed 20 megabytes in size. 36 megapixel jpegs run around 27 megabytes. If you want to share the full size images, you'll have to consider an external storage site and provide a link, like this one.

Let me explain the pictures here. They were taken with my Nikon D810 and may not actually reflect the full potential of the camera. They were hand held at ISO 320, some at f11 while I was just walking around. They were meant to answer a question that someone asked, which was whether you'd see the difference between pictures taken with a 50mm prime versus a zoom set at 50mm. I thought of that question 2 years ago when I first bought the camera. The two landscape picture were taken with a 50mm f/1.4 AF-D and a 28-105 AF-D zoom, not exactly a current model, but not a bad lens overall.

If you zoom in on those two pictures, you can see subtle differences in IQ, but the zoom is close to being as sharp as the 50mm in the center, with some softening at the edges. The prime has slightly better contrast and color rendition as well, but I think that for a 12x18 enlargement on the wall, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference without your nose up to the pictures.

The other two pictures were taken with the zoom. Again, sharpness is decent in the center, falling off toward the far edges. I'm going to replace this old zoom with a 24-120 f/4 VR, mainly because of the VR. I've had issues with motion in dimly lit museums with the old lens.

Having said all of that, which really isn't relevant to the problem, I just wanted to let you know what you're looking at if your click on the link.

I've had much more experience with the camera since then. It's a dream. I think it out-resolves all of my lenses, so if they come along with something newer with more pixels, I think I'll pass. If the replacement has better, more reliable autofocus and isn't too expensive, I might look at it for that. Most of the pictures I find disappointing are just slightly out of focus, and under scrutiny (pixel peeping) I can see it. That's one thing this camera urges one to do. Scrutinize the pictures excessively.

And just like everyone is saying, they're practically dumping the D810 and D750 cameras right now with incredible prices, sometimes bundled with the 24-120 lens and a battery grip. I could get all of that for less than I paid for the camera body two years ago.

While the D810 is a wonderful camera you may want to take a hard look at the D750. Both cameras are FF. You did not say what type of photography that you spend the most time shooting. If landscape is your choice then the D810 would be best. Most other forms of photography the D750 may satisfy your needs.

Hey just checking this out to see if it's legit. I've been delving in pretty deep the past year into photography. And last fall I decided to go back to school where I am majoring in digital imaging emerging arts. I'm still working with my Nikon D5200 which I found for myself to be a great starting point. But now I I'm ready for a full frame lens, I've had my eye on the D810 now for a while just saving 🙂 But I would like some feedback if possible on any thoughts on the d810 or any camera that you recommend ( that's not too far off the price of the d810) and I understand the battle between canon and Nikon at this point I've got a lot invested in Nikon lens and feel comfortable with Nikon. Hope to hear some feed back thanks!

If you have been investigating the D810, you have probably also checked out the other FF cameras. Comparing the specifications is important to making a decision. DSLR cameras have a lot of functions in common, it is where they differ that makes the difference. If you haven't already done the comparisons, I urge you to do them. The most comprehensive listing is found in the camera manuals, which you can download from Nikon's website, and they are found near the end of the manuals.

Comparison is what I did before purchasing my D810, which I love, after learning everything I could from my D7000. Everyone has opinions on which camera is best, but you are the only one who can decide which one will suit your needs. Also, if you have not already purchased FX lenses, you will want to acquire a basic selection of these. My "workhorse" lens is the 24-70mm f/2.8, and it is one of the three "classic" Nikon lenses. [The others are the 24-24mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8.] Of course, there are a lot of excellent lenses to choose from, and many improvements have been made in manufacture, but it is still true that the wider the range of focal lengths the more you will find that sharpness is not as good over all of those focal lengths.

Hope this helps!
