I don't think it contradicts. The authors used a variety of cameras. On lower resolution cameras and crop cameras you are not likely to see much of a difference. But on high mp cameras, you will. What I don't see from the article is a consistent testing protocol. It is very subjective. I spent a month compairing the Contemporary, 200-500, Sport and the G1, and the closest one to my 600mm F4 was the Sport. The other thing is whether or not they had lenses that focused correctly with the bodies they used. There doesn't seem to be any mention of front or back focusing or that they even checked for that. A more rigorous approach to evaluating might be in order.
