I visited Carlsbad for the first time a few years back. Got some marvelous pictures. I know my tripod was in the way of folks, but I tried to be courteous. However, I was doing long exposures, so sometimes it was a problem. I got some great images, though! Then I went back a few days later when there were very few people there. Yes, their lighting is lovely. I found using flash sort of ruined the lighting and wasn't pleased with those I took.

Your pictures are marvelous and I hope we get to see more! Thanks for sharing.

About people not stopping for the sheep - we saw them also. Their camouflage is so good, I think a lot of people don't see them if they just glance their direction.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I used flash on the first few shots, and, like you, didn't like them, so turned the flash off. My shots are OK, until you look at them in detail, then can still see the shake in the camera. If I am fortunate to have a next time there, I will do things a bit differently.

Really enjoy your description's, and account(s) of your trip! The photography is excellent, you did well.

If you ever have the opportunity, there is a road bridge in Austin, Texas that was made to accommodate bats. We visited many years ago, and the estimate bat population was 11 million. It is about 1 mile away from the state capitol, straight in front of. Many people go there every evening during the summer, just to watch the bats, who come out slowly at first, then turn into a 'river' of bats as it gets darker. The bridge is over a literal river!

Thank you for looking and I am glad that you like my photos and narrative. I researched this bridge - but the drive from Kerrville to Austin was 2 hours one way, so decided that it was a no-go for this trip. I would like to come back to the Hill Country and this bridge will be on my to-do list for that trip.

Wonderful ! It's incredible that wonders of nature are so far beneath us . In England we have Cheddar Gorge ( where the cheese is from ) . I've been into the caves a couple of times , absolutely fantastic .
In Germany there is Drachenhole , I've also been down there , that is also amazing . Thanks for showing your photos , I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit .

I always marvel at the formations that exist underground, and have the absolute highest respect for those people who went into them not knowing what was there, how big they were, or what they were going to encounter. I probably would have had a heart attack if someone had turned the lights off on me..........
