I say go for it. I have one which I bought for less than $20. I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality when it arrived. I haven't used it yet but I anticipate it will be useful for table top work and macro work on a tripod. I wouldn't put a 15 lb. DSLR & lens on it but I wouldn't trust a light weight tripod for that either. It's a neat very portable little tool and cost less than the sales tax on a heavy duty ball head tripod. By the way, I've seen a version with tightening knobs at the joints for about $27.

I paid $15.97 but I believe this seller has increased his price to $19.56. If you search Ebay for something like "Z flex mount" you will fond loads at prices as low as $9.99 and some even have knobs. However I believe the knobs still require you to use the hex wrench on the opposite side. I figured at $15.97 on Ebay it might have been junk. I was pleasantly surprised.
