I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that more ink is wasted by turning the printers on and off all the time.

I would agree with this from personal experience.

Incidentally, the longer you wait between uses of your Epson 3880, the longer the cleaning cycle. So it seems use it or lose it ink-wise.

Perhaps you need a tutorial in how to use the internet and websites. It's easy to find: http://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/support-professional-inkjet-printers/pixma-pro9000-mark-ii?tab=#Z7_MQH8HIC0L88RB0AMD0F1Q42K25

I'm not going to do your research for you, but I hope you don't fly aircraft if you can't even find a manual for a printer on line.

Hey all you need to fly is a shirt with wings and a bottle of liquor.

I haven't had to clean the Pro yet & I've had it over a year. Same with the smaller all-in-one printer

Sorry, that is a 3880 that turns itself off.

I have the 3880 for over 9 years now, and it does not turn itself off.

I have Canon printers and print once a week or less. I use Canon OEM inks and have never had a clog in a decade of Canon printer usage. I let my small inkjet's self-timer turn it off and restart when I need to print. Sometimes, it goes through a length warm-up cycle with the head mechanism indexing and moving about.

My 3880 bought in 2016 turns itself off. Then when it restarts it does a cleaning cycle based on how long it has been inactive. Long time inactive, longer cleaning cycle. At first I was incensed at this behavior because I had owned a previous model of the printer and hate wasting ink. So I contacted Epson and they said when it turns off after an inactive period it is to seal off the heads designed to prevent drying and thus clogging. After a year so far, the sold me on the concept.

I don't believe Canon has this feature.

Well, this has been quite a lengthly discussion; but, I don't think we came to a definitive conclusion! To turn off, or not turn off. Bottom line...it depends. HAHaHaHaHaHa

It does. Every photographic question is answered by, it depends.

On the printer issue, I'm inclined to look at it the Louis C.K. way. It's a freaking miracle that some computer can take what you saw in your head and spit out a better version than you could have hoped for. And it does it in ink on paper! Transforming transmitted light into reflective. And we take that for granted and complain because the amount we pay for ink is high. What is it worth compared to the cost of the technology that brings it to us in our homes?

Well, after reviewing all the comments, I am going to leave my printer on all the time. I might even set up a program to print a page every so often as suggested by Jose Rodriguez on YouTube. The jury is still out if I want to attempt refilling for use on the Canon Pro 10. I have read all the problems encountered when doing it. Also, Jose suggests replacing all the cartridges at the same time. My cartridges are no where near the same level and I fail to see the benefit of tossing them and replacing with Precision Ink. I will probably continue to pay the price for OEM ink for this VERY GOOD printer lest I ruin it. It makes AWESOME prints!! Way better than the Pro 100 that I had before.

However, non-OEM ink is definitely an option for my cheap office Canon all-in-one printer and I will also leave it on all the time. That is my final take on this discussion.

I am so glad to hear that you are going to stay with OEM ink for your Canon printer. But you don't have to pay full price. How? I'm going to include a link to an eBay "store" that I use for all my ink and toner carts. This company buys damaged packaging of OEM, then offers them at about one half or two third off. I won't get the original packaging (cardboard box) for my PGI-9 carts, but the carts will be sealed in the original plastic and I'll see the factory seal along the electronics of the carts. In short, it will be the original OEM cartridge of the Canon product, only it won't have the original cardboard box. I've even purchased the OEM toner for my HP laser printer. Still in the sealed plastic bag, but less the original cardboard box. AND, when I bought my most recent toner, about a month ago, it came IN the original box. A corner had a dent in it.

Here's the link to the eBay store. http://www.ebay.com/dsc/i.html?_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=1&LH_IncludeSIF=1&_dmd=1&_nkw=rs42ld8&rt=nc

Yeah, but remember, that mantra often ends with, Oh, S**t?"
