Well, I finally got my new D500 . . . I've been saving for a while, and Nikon had a special sale that I couldn't resist . . . I whined to my wife and she gave me the $300 I was short (good wife). The camera was $1999 for body only a month ago . . . Nikon lowered it to $1799 . . . AND . . . Includes a free MB-D17 battery grip . . . WOW . . . Now my delema is this : I doubt if I'll ever use the battery grip . . . Makes camera too big, I don't shoot in studio or high volume sports, I'm pretty sure just having an extra battery along if needed will be all I ever need for the hiking and family shooting I do. It's normally priced at $329 . . . Should I keep it in case I ever change my mind (I doubt it) ? Or should I try to sell it for $250 or so ? It's NIB . . . Opinions ?

Sell it and if you can sell it for $250 then your D500 is only $1549. What's a deal?

Should make somebody happy! Personally, I like the way they feel and they're great for vertical shots.

Sell it if you're sure you won't use it.
(I have one for my Canon with a hand strap. So much more comfortable for holding & carrying the camera in my hand. Much less hand fatigue even though it does make the camera heavier. It hasn't come off the camera in years. The only bad side for me is the camera with the battery grip does not fit in my camera pouch case.)

Sell it and buy a spare battery or two.

I would sell it but not before trying it for a few photo excursions first. Then you will know positively whether you will like it or not. After you sell it I would give the money back to your good wife. That way she will be better next time.

I would sell it if it brings $250. On the other hand, if you use it, people may think you are using a D5 ;)

You got an excellent deal. I see Adorama still has that pricing. Some people buy a grip for every body because they like something big. I don't. Since you don't think you'll ever use it, sell it. You should easily get $200 on ebay.

Now you can say "How to shoot like a pro for a quarter of the price"

I'd sell the grip. Nikon batteries are great but do get a spare. I have two grips and I removed both of them.

There is some reason they want to sell the camera. Sales are down, it is being replaced, or other factors. Nikon gets top prices for their cameras, and others can do the same or better, such as Sony. Your money. Remember, the photographer takes the picture, not the camera.

If you don't think you'll need it, sell it. I've wasted too much money on stuff I thought I'd need but didn't. By the way, what is the waterfowl down at Westchester Lagoon?
