LR won't let me load images

I'm trying to add images to LR but it keeps telling me they are already there. They are NOT! I even removed images from LR that were of the same subject and have closed and re-opened LR several times to no avail. I've unchecked the "duplicates" box AND I've tried telling it to make a Second copy to another location. Nothing works. I guess I'll have to do this whole wedding album from my laptop unless someone has a solution. I hate arguing with LR. It's a lose-lose situation! I will appreciate any advice offered.

Thanks!
Donna

I hate arguing with Lightroom too. I lose those arguments.
Good luck with your problem.
I know this post didn't help, but I do empathize.

Sounds like duplicate file names. Note one of the file names you are trying to import, then goto the Library > Catalog > All Photographs (left hand set of panels),
Control + F to bring up the search bar, Text > Any Searchable field > Contains all > Type in the file name.

See what comes up.

Remember that if you import with COPY selected, LR will create its own copies of the files, store those copies in its own location and work from those files. What happens to the originals is irrelevant after that point.

Or as Linary suggested, duplicate file names may be the problem. If you're using two similar cameras from the same manufacturer they will name their files similarly. Alternatively, if your camera's file-naming software has been reset for any reason it'll have restarted at zero and will therefore be re-using old file name numbers.

LR is probably right - the images are probably somewhere in the catalog and you just don't know where they are. Perhaps you added the images on the card (or in the camera) to the catalog or perhaps copies of them are somewhere mysterious on your hard drive.

Donna, get into the Library Module and open the Catalog Panel on the left. Highlight "All Photographs" and press "Command + F" Mac or Control+F Windows and search to see if the image is really already installed.

Failing that, since this is a wedding, make a new Catalog and name it "Smith/Jone wedding" now LR should allow you to import these images into this empty catalog.

Donna, here is something you can try. In the LR Library Module, in the left column under "Catalog" there should be a line called "Previous Import". If there is a number next to it, LR did actually make an import for you. Click on "Previous Import" and see if the pictures in question show up.

On a Windows machine a right click on one of the images will bring up lots of options, including "Show in Explorer". I am sure that Macs have the same functions, perhaps with slightly different names. This will show you where the images are on your hard drive. Then all you need to do, is to create a new folder in the left LR Library column named whatever you wish and drag and drop all the images (control A selects them all in the grid) into that folder.

Also, if you know the exact file name of any of the images in question, you can use the computer's file search function to confirm that the photos were indeed imported from your camera's memory card.

I've had this happen to me a few times. It is very annoying. Never did figure out why. I even had one image that refused to be imported even after putting it in a different file three times!

Thank you all for your input. Before I read your wisdom I went ahead and started working on the wedding on my laptop where the selected images were already uploaded to LR. I will, however, save this info for future use. Much as I use and love LR it can be a royal PIA at times!!
