OK, I took a year off from weddings, and am back at it. I promised myself, and "she who must be obeyed" that I wouldn't let it get out of hand again, and would only do 1 wedding a month.

This month, it's been every weekend, and I'm still doing baby photos, family photos, and senior photos.

I've done edits and "repairs" of people's "shoot and run" photographers, but never farmed anything out.

Does anyone here use a service to cull, and do just the basics, like cropping and color correction? How much does that normally cost?

With working a full time job, AND wanting to at least get a little fishing in for the year, I'm beginning to think that I may have to rethink my " I would NEVER consider outsourcing my editing" stance.

Nuts! I was going to ask you! :) Seriously. I have one shot from a collegiate play that I cannot for the life of me get right. I have contemplated exactly what you are asking. Please, if anyone has a source, please speak up.

I have no experience with them. If you google it, there are many options. Jasmine Star uses this one:

Looks like under $.20 per image for basic culling & color correction. $1.00 per image for major retouching.

Wuff, I don't think I charge enough. I guess it's what the local market will bear.

PPA , did have a discount from someone listed for members, but when I looked yesterday, it was gone. I thought I might finally get to use one of the discounts. I always forget too look.

Just ask yourself, is it really worth the hassle? Just enjoy your time with "she who must be obeyed". You obviously don't have the time and working as well. Please do enjoy your free time unless of course you have to depend on it financially. It is not a criticism, but we can push ourselves just too much and life is to be enjoyed.

I hear you, I'm honestly at that point now. I promised myself, "no more than one wedding a month." That promise went just like when I was a musician, and my kids were small. I promised myself, one weekend a month. I ended up playing 4 nights a week, every week of the year. I missed a lot of fun with my kids on weekends. Running my hand through a table saw was actually one of the best things that could happen. I ended up reconnecting with my kids, and started camping, etc.

Anyway, I have to check the budget for this wedding, and see if I can swing sending them out for a trial run. (have to consider all costs, paying other people, supplies, insurance, mileage, taxes, etc.) I mis-figured costs for a local police department event so bad, that my 2 assistants each made 4x as much as I did after all other expenses were taken out.

Have I mentioned that math isn't my strong suit?

Yeah, I can only count up to 9-7/8 with my shoes on.

Well don't do anything drastic with another table saw or anything. Maybe you should up the pricing. It could solve two problems. One your busy schedule and two, there is enough money to outsource editing. I noticed that there is a 25% discount for first time users using the promo code jstar. I was thinking about offering to help you and I still could, but I think at the minimum wage rate combined with my speed in editing Photographers Edit is looking pretty good.

Yeah, I'm really seriously considering giving them a try for this one. Hopefully, the money from the event booth will cover the Photographers Edit cost, and I can then figure out if it is something I want to keep doing for weddings in the future, and just build in the extra cost.

Thankfully, I don't take 2000 photos at a time, so even with Tim Stapp being the brave soul and driving 3.5 hours to shoot with me, and Cyan, my new Assistant, we are all fairly picky shooters and try to keep the "sheer quantity" down.

Well.....as I was typing this, I just booked another senior photo for the week after next. I really need to raise my prices. Not that I don't appreciate work, just not all at once. This is all helping me to decide that maybe hiring it out is a better way to go.
