Is this a Heron?

I've walked by this river dozens of times, saw ducks and geese. Never saw a bird like this. It was a beautiful bird.
My wife only had her cell phone so the photo isn't great.
I am in Southern Ct. Is the bird a long ways from it's natural habitat?...Is it a heron?

Rloren.....Yes it is a heron. That bird is a black-crowned night-heron. They are fairly common here in California. They are not uncommon in CT, but they are a marsh dweller.

It looks like a Black Crowned Night Heron. I'm not a birder; just looked it up in a bird book.

I am in Rhode Island, right next door. I was surprised by a juvenile Night Heron a couple of weeks ago and posted pictures here. Very unusual. Perhaps we are being invaded,or,it's global warming. 😎
