No, it's not the obvious - the high speed bullet. It's that invisible lead dust that get be a threat.

Maybe someone will introduce a line of sexy dust filters you can wear - camo and assorted colors and designs.

Yes, that and the powder smoke/fumes is why indoor ranges have such powerful air circulation/filter systems. And a solution is to use jacketed bullets. In fact the only lead bullets I normally shoot are 22s, and the better brands are all coated with a thin copper wash to cut down on lead dust and leading in the gun's barrel.

Our local sheriff's office has a room in the basement that was used as an indoor shooting range. It's been sealed off with hazard tape for about 15 years.

About the only bullets with lead exposed produced today are .22 rim fire's and .38 wad cutters, most if not all high speed rounds have a copper jacket with the lead covered at the base. In fact I have rounds for my .223 which have solid copper bullets (Remington Hog Hammers).
Looking like Big Brother might be trying for new way to protect us, Not.

We have been aware of the lead issue for years, and we're on top of it. There are exhaust vents at the firing line that filter the air through HEPA filters designed to remove lead particles. The air is filtered a second time. Full jacketed bullets stop the problem. We are very aware.

I recall reading in the American Rifleman years ago that a lot of the lead pollution at shooting ranges was caused by lead styphnate used in the priming mixture of the ammo, I don't know if that type priming is still used or not. All I know is I ate more than my share of lead dust from shooting plus I cast bullets on a regular basis for years. Mayybe thats why I am a whole lot forgetful these days.

Too much water is bad for you too. Not a realistic argument. Sounds like something a liberal would dream up to try to convince people to get rid of guns. The will go to any length.

"Dream up"? Yes, that must be it. There is absolutely no evidence that lead is bad for you.

There has been no problem with lead in firing guns for as long as there have been guns.

I started shooting when I was 5 (I was raised on a ranch), two tours in Nam, shot thousands of rounds. I'm 77 now and still shooting with good health and no lead.

Ah, yes. We true believers will deny any evidence to the contrary, both pro and con. Don't bother me with the truth. My mind is made up. And so we die.
