Alternate to SmugMug

I am looking for a alternate to SmugMug that will allow a guest to order prints that I have uploaded, directly from the site.

I know that SmugMug does this, but this isn't something that I need very often. Since I'm on the frugal (cheap) side, I'd like to find something that is free.

I think that FineArtAmerica does this, but I don't want to set the prices, or be involved in the transaction.

It's not "free", but check out Zenfolio.com. They have different levels of membership.

Red Bubble. As far as setting prices I thought you did that on all pod sites. Been a member of FAA for 5 years and for 30 bucks a year it is good. They do not need you for the transaction everything is taken care of for you cept pricing. Society 6 would be another one.

Keep in mind the ease of use for the end user...Smugmug is easy for my friends and family to use, which is why I've not looked elsewhere since starting to use it in 2007.

I agree. SmugMug is a good site and easy to use. Very seldom do any of my family or friends want to order prints, so the fee, although small is mostly wasted. Other sites are free if I only want my guests to view or download my photos.

Thanks for the reply. However, my use is strictly for family and friends. They seldom want prints, but when they do, it would be nice if they could order them straight from the site where they are viewed. I don't want to do any pricing, or to get any payment for the prints.

I had very similar requirements and went with Pixieset. Free for 5GB of storage. Allows for printing to a nice print house. Tilted a little more toward someone selling, but you can make downloads free.

I was curious, so I just checked my smugmug site...

Just shy of 60K images and videos weighing in at just under 465GB.

465GB isn't occasional usage, sounds like both a good, full library and a great off-site backup. I only use Pixiset for a small, temporary set of images. I still think about Smugmug or some of the others to really put all the decent shots (both for sharing and backup).

Is there an upper limit for Smugmug?

Limits on file sizes...but not total quantity.

Yup, I generate high rez images and they all get uploaded and cataloged there...been doing it that way since 2007. Feel free to click on my user name to find my site.

I use a service from unitprints.com, I think I pay something like $35 per year, and it does not have a limit as to the number of files or the size of files to upload! and clients/friends can go there to view and order prints! check them out! unitprints.com

Zenfolio is a great alternative to Smug Mug.
Yes, it does cost, but you can decide which plan fits your budget. Zenfolio does not limit the number of images you upload, by numbers or image size.
All of your uploaded images are stored at an off sight location, you can upload jpg images as well a elect to upload RAW versions of the images
Once your images are uploaded you can set the prices you wish to charge, once a customer has made a purchase and their purchases in a shopping cart, they provide payment at check out, you don't have to chase the money or beg for payment.
You can select the quality of the images you upload so your images can be previewed or viewed at higher res.
Zenfolio allows you to select one of the photo printing companies, MPIX or Miller's a a print provider, they provide superb results and great customer service. MPIX provides a multitude of forms images can be printed, regular prints-poster or wall cling prints, photo books so your customers are limited to one form of prints. A hug selection of framing options are also available.
