Kerrville, where I stayed for several days is right on the Guadalupe River, and that river has several dams on it to slow the water and form catch basins behind them. There was a wonderful walk by the river with a foot bridge over the river made of concrete and just above the rushing river - this time with a puddle in it that a small boy had a wonderful time playing in. The dams are great places for people to sit and fish, if the top is wide enough, or for kids to get into the water and wade, swim and have a good time below the dam. The Guadalupe is a very long river and flows through a private girls summer camp near Hunt, Texas that I was fortunate enough to get inside to take a look around. The road along the river crosses the river several times on a secondary road for many miles and has abundant wildlife viewing opportunities - most of the wildlife quite skittish. I also found the Kerr Wildlife Management Area which is a patchwork of private land that is managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife for hunting. I heard the Yellow-Cheeked Warbler there, so counted it as 1/2 on my life list of birds - heard but not seen. I was using my Canon 100-300 lens, but was at the limit of it several times, and I am considering getting a longer lens for wildlife in the future.

Texas Hill Country is very beautiful in Spring especially after a rainy Winter. Next time you are in the area visit nearby old German town Fredricksburg. You will see some interesting European architecture around town.

I drove through Fredericksburg several times when I went to Johnson City, then up to the "Willow Loop" area. There were lots of tourists there, and perhaps the wintertime would be a good time to just look around and not have to fight the crowds or try to find parking. I went through several towns that had wonderful Courthouses. I love the stone that was used for them, and the "castle" feel. I was totally enchanted with the part of the Hill Country that I saw on this trip. Thanks for looking and your comments.
