"If it ain't broke, don't fix it," might sound like good advice, but it isn't. Maybe it's about to break, like WinXP.

If they are still using XP it serves them right. The product hasn't been supported since 2014 and it already 15 years old. It's part of using a computer you need to upgrade over time or you will end up in these situations especially if the system you are using is being used professionally.

xp is a great operating system, simple enough for us non geeks to use and interface.
I'll take it anytime over this stupid bloated window 10 anyday.
You can have your swipes, pokes, and connectivity; all i want is a keyboard and
file structure I can arrange to my desires, an operating system i can talk too.

But do you use it online? That's where the danger arises.

Being an ex-tech I know Windows XP very well. Understand that XP is an operating system sitting on top of a DOS shell and it's the old DOS that is actually running the system. On Windows 7 forward it is a stand alone OS like Apple's iOS. I'm running the latest version of Windows 10 right now and I can tell you from experience that I have had a lot fewer problems with this system that I had with XP by a long shot. If you are running a system that was originally loaded with XP or earlier I would NOT recommend upgrading the OS to 7 or above. Your best course of action will probably be to upgrade the computer (i.e. a new one).

At this point in time with all the really bad malware and viruses as well as the hostage software out there I would defiantly want an OS that is being upgraded on a regular basis by the OS manufacturer.

jerryc41 has a good point and for that reason i use windows 10 on line but a different computer with xp for my apps.
If you play on line or cannot afford two computers then a fresh clean load of win 10 is your best choice.
For those limited to xp i have found Kaspersky anti virus easy to maintain and effective for the past 4 years.

I have an old laptop with Win10, but it's not capable of getting online, so I'm not worried.

Welcome to Linux!!! It can be as basic as you want it and as intricate as you want it....(at the same time even).

Note that they didn't target Windows 10.
Sounds like an inside job to me...

They targeted any platform that didn't have a fix. If you have Win10 and you have installed updates as they were released you won't have a problem. The same holds true for Win 7, 8 and 9. That's why people have been having problems with older OS's that are no longer serviced by Microsoft such as XP and Vista. Or IT managers are not allowing fixes to be downloaded and installed into active systems.
