As a young man growing up on the SS of Long Island I know exactly what this boy is feeling. Looking around the photo I see some other youngsters with looks of anticipation and determination on there faces as well as some adults. Looks to me like the prelim to a bridge fishing tournament. I really like this photo and the story it tells. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you, Ralph. You are correct, it is the 31st annual Jerry Hill Memorial Kids Fishing Tournament. He was the fish and wildlife editor of the local newspaper, Bradenton Herald. BTW, I also grew up on the SS of LI!
I grew up on the NS of LI in Commack but spent alot of time on the SS beaches, does that count.
That's one crowded bridge! Are they all planning to fish there? Good shot, Tony!

Sailorsmom, The bridge is about 1/2 mile long. They were just getting instructions at that point. When he said 'go', they all took off running to get their 'spot' on the bridge. Quite amusing.
