Both images, of the same bird, were taken with an EOS 100/400 mm lens, hand held but image stabilised. This is a common bird in the hedgerows around Southwell, UK.

Both look nice to me John. On the second one I would crop it tighter to the bird. Just leave a little of the greenery.
