From yesterday's drive of back roads -- the first in many days.
* * *
A note to friends, who out of concern, have written and called about my whereabouts in the last weeks.
The list of preoccupations has continued -- non stop. Sandra and I are in good health but, busy as heck.
The latest is that much of Central Canada is experiencing extreme flood condition because of huge amounts of rain combined with significant Spring runoff. Many communities have declared civil emergencies. Thousands of families have lost their homes.
Our home, on the edge of a lake near Ottawa, is still high and dry even though our yard is covered with water. We have been extremely lucky, thanks to factors that have worked in our favor. The watershed is expected to peak on the weekend.
hope the water level stays below your foundation

Thanks Old Grey Beard.
We've got about two feet and the foundation is about four feet above ground level. The furnace, water heater and fortunately all appliances are at the level of the living area. So if the system peaks soon, we'll be OK.

Thank you Stan.
We are extremely lucky. The nightly news is full of interviews of people who have lost everything.

You should be safe; from the looks of it, any water that gets into the cabin should drain right out again.

And note that it is air conditioned as well!

Stay safe, Pierre. Thank you so much for letting us know.

The increase of water level appears to be slowing today. There are showers forecast for the weekend. If they are not heavy, we should be OK.
The weather is nice today, so we're going for another drive this afternoon.
Thanks Linda.

Excellent shot of the place! I like the b/w here. Works well.
Glad you're okay--haven't been here much lately myself, didn't realize you were missing, lol! Stay dry, and hope that water recedes before you're in any danger!
Glad you are safe, Pierre and thanks for checking in.... nice image, also!
Good luck on the water not coming higher.
Do you at least have plenty of fishing tackle and bait?
So glad that you and Sandra are safe, Pierre, and that your home is above the flood waters. This is not only a handyman's delight but a photographer's delight as well. Wonderful shot and processing!!!
