MAMA AIN'T HAPPY...

Yes I hollered that. Monday I bought a pocket wizard in preparation of taking photos of a bride to be in Tuscaloosa (her almamata). Sitting here getting things ready and looking at the tutorials on line when I just couldn't fig. out something on my camera. So I called my camera place, being talked thru some of the stuff with the wizard and things just weren't doing right. The conclusion is that there must be something wrong with my cameras hotshoe. I'll still be doing the photos and will plan on taking the whole kit and kaboodle to the camera shop although I may have to wait until after the 23 before I will allow my camera to leave my hands (that is when the wedding is). I'm wondering now if there may have always been a bit of problem with it and in my learning something new everyday didn't know until this has come up. Yeah, Mama ain't happy one bit.

Is this a paid gig or gratis? If paid, and you don't have a backup, could you rent or borrow a body for the wedding?

I feel your pain - My digital was in the shop for a few months because of no parts (Tsunami in Japan, flooding in Indonesia).

Sorry to hear. Sometimes, stuff like that happens to me. A little obscure feature that I never use suddenly is needed; only to find out that there might be something wrong with it.

Thanks carioca, bhf, and les. Snowbear, it isn't exactly a paid deal. The bride to be is first- kin and 2nd- is marrying my nephew on my husband's side. Maybe I shouldn't have thought about using a pocketwizard this go round anyway but had wanted to have the ability to do other stuff that I wouldn't be able to since now the flash will have to be 'in site' of the camera. I guess above all that probability of having to send my camera off for however long really aggravates me. arghh!

Maybe you can fire the flash with a PC cord.

My 580EX II can use its own sensor (cn 05 set to 03).

You just have to tell the flash what the F stop is and the ISO value.

If the problem is in yer hot shoe you can still fire the pocket wizard with the short pc/sync connector that should have been included with the PW.

Good luck!

Just buy an off camera cord. They are reliable and cheap.

Thanks all for your input. Not able to get a loaner as my source is Approx. 70 miles away and I was headed in the opposite direction. I have a sync cord which is pretty long but then it would not help with trying to use the flash in a back lighting situation. I'll just have to depend on natural light and what I can do with my flash as is. Hope to share a few with you by Saturday night. Will be doing the shoot late afternoon/early eve. Just keep me in your thoughts starting around 4/5pm that evening:)

I had the D90 and SB900. Sold the flash but still have the D90 which I still use. Great camera but SB900 was too complicated for me but worked good.
