Anyone out there cut the cord with their cable provider?

I finally “cut the cord” with my cable provider. One of the most frustrating things I do is take the shot of a lifetime and get nothing but tail feathers.

The second is trying to find something to watch on one of 200 channels. Sorry, but I am tired of paying to watch “Cup Cake Wars”, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, “Little Housewife’s of Atlanta” and Bulgarian soccer. And I am paying to the tune of about $100 a month.

I also cut the landline. Don’t need it, the security system is cellular and all I got on the landline was 10 robo calls a day.
So now I have...

Netflix $10 a month.
Amazon Prime comes with my membership.
Hulu $7.99 a month.
Curiosity Stream $2.99 a month.

Grand total $21 a month for almost 500,000 movies and TV episodes.

Just wondering if anyone out there has done the same.

Yep, did the same here but added a $10 on air antenna. At last count, we get 36 channels for free and don't miss cable at all.

But aren't you paying a cable or phone company for high speed Internet service?

We cut our land-line a few years ago when we moved. All in my family have iPhones.

We COULD cut our TV service from the cable, and use an over-the-air receiver for local channels, but there are a few cable channels we do watch.

Our smart tv can play anything — It has several HDMI inputs and USB inputs and a network connection. So right now, we're getting basic cable and 100Mbps Internet, to which we add Netflix, and Prime. It's $74/month for just the cable tv and Internet (Spectrum).

We went with Tivo Roamio and a antenna. The service is $15 a month, and it's the best DVR. You can also buy units with lifetime service. Cool search and scheduling options. In addition, we have Netflix streaming. We did also do Hulu for a while, but dropped it. Not enough content that wasn't also on Netflix or broadcast TV.

Yes we are paying for internet. And you have a good deal. My total "Bundle bill" was $190. a month...$63 for just High Speed Internet.

We made the decision when we moved to the country. We could have internet or TV but not both. I started browsing the DVD and Blue Ray cutout bins at Wally's. Now we have a collection of movies from which to select, too.
A couple of years ago my son gave us a Roku for Christmas. That's about the only recommendation I could make to add to your list. Easy to find stuff on You Tube and get it to the screen.
I love the look on the face of the DISH salespeople when they ask what plan I have. I tell them I plan to never watch TV again.

Yes, kinda sorta. I've cut the phone cord. I've cut back to the minimum service from DirecTV. I also subscribe to Netflix and Amazon, but don't have Hulu or Curosity - yet, and have a ROKU which I really enjoy. My immediate geography won't allow an antenna. And I switched from AT&TUverse to TWC for internet service. I figure these changes will save me nearly $1K this year, most from cutting the phone cord.

How do you like the Curosity Stream? Do you have the Hulu TV package, or just Hulu service?

Thanks

We have cable on one room for tv. Two other sets are on over the air and get the major networks except for cbs and I suspect that it has to do with their antenna and our local geography. I put a chromecast on one of them and can stream shows from my iPhone that way. And YES, the overall content except for pbs is hardly worth the effort.
Comcast contract expires in August but will still need them for internet 😠

Curiosity Stream is excellent for documentaries etc. Have the hulu package with commercials but at most there are 3 commercials in a break which is acceptable

I am planning on doing the same. We had Time Warner, and was happy with them, they then sold to Spectrum. I am VERY unhappy with this company. My brother lives in NYC, and also had Time Warner (now Spectrum), so he cut the cable cord (never had the phone). He told me last night, Spectrum is losing their cable customers at a higher rate than they expected, so they are now raising their internet rates! Where I live, our only choice is Spectrum or AT&T and both companies suck!

I've never had cable TV. I get about 50 channels over the air with a rabbit ear antenna! My concern now is my internet bill. It has been $10 a month, but my plan is expiring and they can't find me another one that cheap. I may have to do without (no more UHH!), at least for awhile.

We broke ties with satellite several months ago and have not looked back. We have enough channels on the antennae. Just about anything you can think of to watch is available on dvd and vhs. The local Goodwill sells vhs for .10 and after we watch them we re-donate them back. It is cheaper to buy seasons of the programs we want to watch than to pay satellite. Landline has been gone for years.

Been there for 3 or 4 years now. Over the air is expanding since going digital, I get 20 right now not counting 2 local religious broadcasters. Roku device, getting Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.
