I'm new to UHH and this is my first photo posting since joining. I photographed this American Bald Eagle with a Nikon D500 and a Nikkor 200-500mm F/5.6 lens and a Nikon 1.4 II Converter. ISO 640 Exp. 1/2000 sec. F/8 Focal Length 280mm handheld in a vehicle. When a vehicle is running whether a car or a big truck, they vibrate and it will affect the photographs. I started using my tripod with a wireless remote to compare to my handheld photographs. And to give my arms a break from the weight. What a difference! Trying to track birds in flight with a tripod is something to get used to. With time and patience i hope to master it. Enjoy!
Nice first post. Welcome to the forum.
Maybe it is time for a Gimbal head. You can use it either way still or let off the tension and track with it.

I second Old Timer's advice, a gimbal head is definitely the way to go. If you don't have one I highly recommend you get one but don't get a cheap $100 one; they work but wear out too quickly. You will find tracking birds with your lens mounted to a tripod with a gimbal is quite easy to do and your keeper rate will go up.
At 1/2000 of a second, camera shake shouldn't be much of an issue.
Welcome to the forum.
I have a Gimbal head and started using it again. Been hand holding most of the time. Using a tripod and gimbal head with wireless remote has improved my photos.

I agree with those who recommend the Gimbal head. It's a godsend.
