Please help - I can't find the magic button that does it.
Thanks

why do you want to? it is very good at organizing and keeping track of your photos. not to mention the ability to quick fix a large number of photos without the hassle of opening the editor.

That is your opinion, not the op, which I agree with. Barbara Bundage book agrees that is the best part of elements or the worst which depends on your needs and preference. I agree with the later, it is like a lot of organizer, it wants to control ever thing. In my opinion elements is over rate for average photographer. Why spend hours in pp when it could have been done right to start with. Removing a power line or other objects is the only thing I use it for.

You can run Organizer directly (create a shortcut to PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe) but not the Edit option. But this is the opposite of what you and I want. I sympathize with your frustration since I don't find the Organizer helpful I can do better myself.
The shortcut on your desktop starts up a small application that lets you select Organize or Edit. The Edit step takes a while to load. In fact it is so slow that I dont use PSE unless I need to edit several photos in succession.
I find it quicker to use PictureWindow Pro, which is less expensive and easier to use for the minimal fixes I need. I also use Nikons Capture NX2. Both of these load much faster than PSE and dont show you a lot of superfluous promotions at startup.
Questions relating to Elements can be answered quickly and accurately at elementsvillage.com. For the folks who work that forum , it's all Elements, all the time.
Organizer and Elements are separate...you don't have to use Organizer if you choose not to.
From Adobe help:
"Do I have to use Elements Organizer?
No. You can copy photos to your computer and fix your photos in the Edit workspace of Photoshop Elements.
However, there are lots of great things you can do with your photos in Elements Organizer. Also, after collecting hundreds and thousands of photos on your computer, youll discover that finding and managing photos with Elements Organizer is much easier."

The easiest way is when you see the welcome screen, where it gives you the choice to open Organizer or Editor, go to the fly out menu, upper right hand corner right next the the close X and choose "Always launch Elements Editor behind welcome screen". The next time you click on PSE it will open the spash screen (welcome screen) but start to launch Editor at the same time. Then just close the welcome screen.
The splash screen will go away by itself, but I find that it's faster to just close it while I'm waiting for the Editor to open.
The other option is to do like the other person in this thread said, and that's to create a Short Cut icon from the original PSE Editor executable file. If you don't know what you are doing when it comes to Windows and icons, I wouldn't play with it. (unless you just have a desire to learn it which isn't a bad thing)
I have an Icon on my desk top that opens the editor by passing the splash screen. It loads a lot faster that way. The icon says 'Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Preferences'. I have no idea how it got there. I agree the Organizer is very bad. I seldom use it any more.

I opened the PSE 9 files, and copied a link to my taskbar directly to the editor. Now if I want! I just open the editor, bypassing the dreaded organizer. Or should that be disorganizer.
PS: Just buy a Mac, the organizer doesn't work in their system. But neither do a lot of other things. :)

To do this in Windows, open Windows Explorer to the folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9
The (x86) will not appear if you are running a 32-bit operating system.
Then right-click on the blue PSE icon (PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe) and select
Create shortcut
on the menu that pops up.
Just right click the picture, Open With, PSE

There are a lot of ways to do it huh?
I've had so many problems with the "Organizer" there isn't enough room here to explain them all. I was told I need to bring my Mac into an Apple store in order to solve any of my problems. Like that' going to happen.
Well at the risk of sounding pompus, never start PSE with the organize button, use the edit function, then using the file menu select the file you want to process
That is exactly what I've had to do. As much as I would like to use the "Organizer" I consistently fail to see my images. What I do get are question marks on half of my images. When trying to access these images I simply get the spinning wheel which never goes away. Therefore I wind up forcing quitting. When I first started using the Organizer I was very excited with its organizational capabilities but after some time the nightmares began.
