Doing the same here condemning before the facts are all in , and I took them all in , and found him not guilty of any crime of any importance , and the only crime he committed if there was one , is a crime against himself ,

I would say both you and the OP are living in the dark ages. Practical jokes are funny, until it is done to you.

In any case, the OP showed his true colors by admitting jealousy. While you can't control your feelings, you can always control your actions. If you don't see how dysfunctional that interaction is, there is not much I can say to you. Maybe to start reading books on healthy relationships? But I wouldn't want to waste your money.

You are welcome to stop by any time.

The only person who is a wimp is the OP - If he was emotionally healthy, he would do what some of the replies suggested, specifically, to give the daughter the gift ahead of time, so she can learn the camera by the time they are leaving for the trip.

Here is an idea, why don't you become friends with the OP? The 2 of you sound like match made in heaven.

You're bad. The D40 is a nice looking camera. If you didn't buy the D810 yet now you can save $500. Nikon just dropped the price to $2496.

As I recall, I never indicated I didn't like the content. I simply asked people to "Lighten up".
I am of the opinion that the "OP" (ugh I dislike that term), Medic24, was making a joke.

Don't think he was making a joke. I think he just has a nasty self-absorbed sense of humor and enjoys making his daughter suffer before giving her a gift. To quote him "I've developed a intricate & devious plan to absolutely devastate her and then gleefully surprise her at the same time. " ..."Oh, the look of sheer horror i expect to see on that beautiful face." I've bolded the two most egregious phrases. What kind of father would purposely force those emotions on a child they claim to love? Sick.

I think his own admission of jealousy plays a part in this. I was a professional musician and so is my son. His talent and skill exceeded mine at an early age. While I am very proud of him, I'm not, nor have I ever been, jealous of my son's achievement. The fact that he's jealous of his daughter says something.

Do you not find it curious that you are the one amongst 13 pages of replies that appears to agree with the op? He asked for opinions and he got them. There's no harassing or bullying here.

i DO NOT ENTIRELY AGREE WITH THE OP. I howerver understand that there are many people that enjoy practical jokes and many others who don't approve, and I see merit in each view, but the one thing I can't abide it the level of bullying and such that this list is infected with. And to say that there's no harassing or bullying here only tells methat you have not read all comments. I particularly like the person that called the OP an idiot, may he rot in hell.

Or is it just Trump that has encouraged the level of nasty discourse in our land?

Instead of being jealous of your daughter's ability you might want to be proud of her and let her know. That is truly a very bad idea. I would think you would want to see her happy with the camera before you go on the trip. She'll love your for it. The anger may not be worth it.
