Yesterday was a cloudy day with some rain when I took these photos of a Goldfinch from 60 to 90 feet
as I got closer to this small, pretty bird. I was also testing out my new Canon 1.4x III converter which
seemed to work well.

Hand held. 560mm focal point.

Photo #1: Canon 5Dsr - Canon 400 II DO f4 - Canon 1.4x III - 1/400 - f/7.1 - ISO @ 1000. Distance was about 60-75 feet.
Photo #2: Canon 5Dsr - Canon 400 II DO f4 - Canon 1.4x III - 1/200 - f/5.6 - ISO @ 1000. Distance was about 75-90 feet.

I could have had more detail, but I was too far away from the Goldfinch. Thank you very much, Ralph.

Beautiful! I'm hoping to finally get a few shots of these myself. I've added feeders to my yard, but they are quick!

There are times when you don't want to get to close: a Bald Eagle at 100 feet using a 2x extender will cut off part of the head and tail feathers and a 1.4x will not.
A 1.4x will give me multiple focus points which work well with a flock of birds on a blank sky.
I am shooting with 50.6 mp. I will use my 2x III 95 % of the time.

Thank you very much, cmc65.

These small, pretty birds are fast. They remind me of Canaries.
Thank you very much, Elcon, for your good comment.
