Assuming you are referring to Oregon, Multnomah Falls is a 620 foot waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge about a half hour freeway drive from the Portland airport. If you get off the freeway at Troutdale and take the Columbia River Highway there are multiple spectacular falls along the way as well as Crown Point with sweeping vistas of the Columbia River Gorge from high up.

If you could clarify which Portland, what types of things you like to photograph, how much time you have and how far you are willing to travel, that would help tremendously.

I assume you mean Portland Oregon!

The many falls along the Columbia Gorge, the rose garden, the Japanese Garden, Mt. Hood.

There is a beautiful rose park and Japanese garden up on the hill in downtown Portland. Don't miss them, especially the Japanese garden.

It depends on whether or not you want to photograph scenery, wildlife, or city life.

The Columbia Gorge has already been mentioned.

This time of year Sauvie Island is a great spot to photograph birds. If you head south on I5 the Tulip festival should still be going on just outside of Woodburn.

Downtown Portland has several things worth photographing, especially in the late afternoon or evening. Views of the city are best from the east side. However, if you want to shoot from the west hills looking east you can shoot the city with Mt. Hood in the background.

The waterfront on the west side is picturesque and near their is good for street photography.

The area near Sellwood bridge has some great old businesses, the St. Johns area has some nice old houses, parks, is near an industrial area, and the St. Johns bridge is the most scenic bridge in the city.

In addition, there is a new pedestrian bridge that is quite scenic at night.

I still remember this (vividly) from 6 years and 6000 miles away.

Hey guys - stop assuming. I would naturally think he meant Portland, Maine. Although, having lived in this "lesser" Portland, we become used to everyone assuming Portland, Oregon! I even had a United Airlines agent (back before we could do our own online reservations) tell me that United didn't fly into Portland. I even told him - "no - PWM - Portland Maine" - and his response was: "I work for United, I should know". I thanked him, hung up, called back and got a different agent, and had no problems making my reservation!

So - if you DO mean Maine, I am sure Linda and I can give you lots of ideas!

Yes, it was assumed to be Portland Oregon..... but the OP already confirmed that the assumption was correct.
