Victims of the Heat

Well today my back yard hit the mid 90s.
These sunflowers were toward the end already, just starting to wilt. The bright sunny day and the heat pretty much did them in at a high rate of speed. They are on the west side of my yard so they got direct sun for over 10 hours today.

Excuse the backgrounds, most of the fence behind went white or light gray and totally out of focus but some other gegetation and one steel blue shadow intruded and I did a real quick and dirty clone job. These were test shots to see how my camera and lens are working.*

#1 7DII, 100-400 mk II @ 170, 1/400 @ f/11, ISO 3200 hand held, in shade
#2 7DII, 100-400 mk II @ 312, 1/400 @ f/11, ISO 3200 hand held, in shade

*Early last night I %#$@&*^ up and hit my tripod with my roll around office chair. It went over with the 7DII, 100-400 mk II and 1.4x III on it. My excuse, forgot it was there due to being half asleep and just coming up from the pain killer etc after having a molar extracted yesterday afternoon. Face cover popped off mode dial, battery carrier popped out of the grip, scratches on the lens hood. Thank God for plastic lens hoods, it flexed and acted like a shock absorber. The mode dial lock is now iffy and turning it seems a bit rough. The zoom seems to be OK but maybe a little noise that wasn't there before. AF seems to work fine and so does everything else. Tomorrow I will test with other lenses. Today I was testing with the 100-400, both with and without the extender. Focus seems to be OK.
But I went online and scheduled a check up and repairs with Canon. I am less than 30 minutes drive from their Costa Mesa repair and service center. So Tuesday I will drive it over in person. Monday I have a Dr apt in the middle of the day and I am NOT driving over there in "Rush Hour", either the morning or evening one.

Interesting pictures, Robert. Plants are starting to wilt in my yard too some 15 miles North of you. Sorry to hear about your tooth extraction and accident with your camera! I've been lucky with never damaging any of my photo equipment (some got stolen once though in 1987), but I have had several teeth extracted. Not fun.

Thanks Yes, first really hot days this year.
I have had cameras stolen on two occasions.
In Vietnam my whole bag vanished out of my quarters, but was found hidden above a support beam in the bunker next to the barracks.
Then back in the 70s a video camera (cassette type) vanished on a family trip to Las Vegas. We always suspected one of my wife's relatives who had a habit of taking and pawning stuff from family members to buy booze.

Thank you very much.
That background is a totally out of focus weathered wood fence with steel posts about 4-6 feet away.

Nice work Robert. The plant now appears to be alien. Glad you are close to Canon and good luck with the repairs.

Thanks a lot.
Everything on the camera seems to be working, lens and extender also. Mode dial is a little rough and the lock button sticks sometimes.
They go to canon for a checkup anyway, plus fine tuning if needed.

And I have been watering them! But these blooms budded and grew during cool weather, that might have made them vulnerable to heat.
Thanks Sue
