Donna, you asked a short while ago about how I shoot the stacks in the field. I just finished the blog with illustrations and photos describing the equipment and techniques I use. I hope this is useful for the members here. It might be posted in the Macro forum if I can get ahold of Douglass and he is willing to edit it to fit the formatting on this site. Enjoy

Excellent article Dave, Thanks. I just did my first focus stacking experiment. It sounds easy when you read about it but when you go to do it, difficulties are encountered. Your article helped answer some of those for me. I did mine with a remote release using mirror up function with a tripod. In your article, your example of using continuous mode at 1 or 2 frames per second (even hand held) is something I really want to try. What a time saver!! I was afraid to touch my camera but I guess at 1/350 that would not be a big issue. I will have to look at some of your other tips!!

Thanks for all the work you have put into this and into the other tutorials on your blog which will keep me busy for a while. I am excited at the prospect of practising your 1 or 2 fps technique and the softbox solution to breezes.

You and the others are very welcome Donna. Sorry I was a bit remiss at not having any time lately, so it took me and extra few days to put it together. I enjoy the illustrating as I use to design and fabricate museum exhibits. I also love the thought process to make text understandable via graphics. It is like interpreting via another language.
Thanks again to you all. I was thinking about gathering all of the blog articles when I reach 50 or more, and combining them into a free ebook for download. There is a lot of information that other pros don't really discuss, but they are the real tricks to achieving the final shots you see published.

I meant "Blog"
Just changed that typo for you, David, and I think an ebook would be an excellent idea. There have been so many of your articles that I would like to have in print for reference, and I know others would as well.
