OP/TECH Strap: How Do I Stop It From Swinging at my Side?

About a year or so ago, after hurting my shoulder (rotator cuff), I purchased an OP/TECH sling strap. I find this much more comfortable to use as it distributes the weight more evenly, and the sliding operation is very convenient. When I originally attached the strap to the right side of the camera, according to manufacturer's directions, I found that in the vertical position, the strap blocked my view. So, I re-attached the strap to the left side. This works great, as the view finder is unobstructed in both landscape and portrait view. The problem is (regardless of which side the strap is attached to) that the camera swings at my side while walking or bending down. This is very annoying, and can allow the camera to hit other objects. Can anyone recommend any way to prevent the camera from swinging freely at my side, while using the OP/TECH strap? Thanks.
Steve

Purchase a Cotton Carrier. NO swing and quick access. https://www.cottoncarrier.com/collections/camera-vests

Try attaching it to both sides, its much more stable that way, but there will still be some movement but much less.

If I am going to be out hiking I attach the camera with one 'clicker' to the strap. The other 'clicker' I attach to a belt loop on my trousers and attach the camera to that. Doesnt allow quick draw access to the camera but as I mainly take scenic while out tramping, that doesnt worry me. But it does stop that annoying swing.

Steve, I'm partial to Upstrap products. So, not much help.

Does the camera dangle?

No. It's quite like a conventional strap, only stronger and a non-slip shoulder pad. That's the model I have. There are other models. You'd have to check their site.

I will say they are one of the most decent companies with whom to do business. If you're interested in details, send me a PM. Along with that, 98% of the product is made in USA..

As boberic mentioned, I have attached the sling to both sides of my camera, just because I fear single point connection failure. That does limit the swinging somewhat. However, I always have my hand on the camera when I am moving about. If I ever do any strenuous climbing, I put the camera away in my backpack.

What you need is an underarm strap. I have Carry Speed strap that has this feature. The Optech straps are wonderful, I have rapid connects to put the strap on multiple cameras, but I do not like their sling version because of the excessive dangle letting your camera just twist in the wind. If you don't want to invest in a different system, I would convert your Optech to a regular classic style strap by switching attachments to the Neoprene pad and carrying the camera connected to BOTH ends. I also endorse a wrist strap which can be easily attached when not using the strap.

Any strap will let the camera swing. I keep a hand on it. I have straps that attach to both points on the camera, not the slider like you have.

I've just gotten into the habit of keeping my hand on the camera. Here is a product that you might be able to use with the sling. I haven't tried anything like it but......it's an idea.

As you already have the OpTech Sling all you need to do is attach an additional Uni Loop to your belt.

Clever, but I'd forget and have a problem when I pulled the camera to my eye.

I do the same thing as you and have never had a problem with the dangling or swinging back and forth. I use a an Op-Tech strap and have for years. For me they are of excellent quality and handle weight easily. Like you I simply hold the camera in my left hand when needed, not all the time, and have no problem walking easily without the camera swinging.
