I am traveling to Spain in about a month and trying to decide which lenses to take. I shoot with a Panasonic GX8 (mirrorless) camera and my lens choices are: Panasonic 7-14 mm (equivalent to 14-28 mm), Panasonic 12-35 mm (equivalent to 24-70 mm) and Panasonic 35-100 (equivalent to 70-200 mm). I would like to travel with just two of these to reduce weight and size of bag I will carry since we will be doing a lot of walking. I am pretty sure I will be taking the 12-35 mm lens but can't decide which of the other two to take. I am leaning toward taking the 7-14 mm lens because we will be visiting large cathedrals and also there will be opportunities for wide scenics such as the "white cities" and the Mediterranean coast. Another option would be to take the 12-35 mm and 35-100 mm and also my 25 mm prime instead of the larger 12-35 mm. Any ideas on this? I think I know how some of you will respond - Suck it up and just take them all!

7-14,12-35, & 35-100. If the 25mm prime is a 1.8 or 1.4 take it as well. Not all of them but close to it.

If you're only taking two I would take the two widest zooms, but you're right, I say toss the two lens limit and take all three zooms and has been mentioned the prime if it is notably faster.
Have fun!

If I were Kickle, I would take them all. Yes, you will not be sorry for doing that and you will be sending me a gift for that suggestion when you come home.

Thanks for the replies. I think I knew the answer I would get as soon as I posted this! So - I will probably just take a larger bag and all three zooms. This is a once in a lifetime trip to Spain for me, so I don't want to be wishing I had the lens I left at home. The 25 mm prime is faster - 1.8, but I can probably get by without it as the 12-35 is fairly fast at 2.8.

Don't forget to take some filters, the lighting levels in Spain can be very bright.
Suggest a circular polarising filter and some soft graduated ND filters.
Travel tripod may be?

If you have only one camera and like me, do not swapping lenses unless necessary I would take the 12-35mm and the 25mm prime and if you think you may need some zoom the 24-70mm.
I use an Olympus EM10 with a 20mm prime (very small and light) and a 14-45mm and that's what I would take, I also have a good P&S which has a good zoom just in case I need that bit extra, but I hardly ever use it.
In Andalucia where those white villages are in can get extremely hot, 40 degrees plus is usual so you don't want to lugging too much stuff around.
The lenses are all Panasonic made by the way.

You are the photographer. There is no best lens. We all, if you are old enough, used a 50mm prime lens and took great photographs. Now we need a new and different lens for every picture we take.

I would bring the 24-70mm equivalent. You'll have one nice piece of equipment that should cover your needs.

I visited Spain last summer. I have a Nikon D7100 and used my 18-200 VR2 lens for everything. When I wanted wider, I just shot several photos and made a panorama.

12 to 35 for practically everything , and 35 to 100 for just a few. you might need wider?? stich a pano. longer, crop. Last thing you need is dragging around a ton of glass . Enjoy the country, people food and sights

On our first day out I was warned by a native to Not carry my camera off one shoulder, use an across body strap or hang it around your neck. Also watch out for pick pockets in crowded areas. I had two ladies try to get into my fanny pack where my spare lens was while in Madrid. They were walking and talking along side of us in crowded main square. The closest one was holding a folded map with one hand and apparently trying to unzip my bag with the other. After feeling a couple of bumps I turned to see what was going on, they quickly turned away and left us. It was then that I found the bag half unzipped. Other than that it was a fantastic trip. Have a great time.

Right! With a hand always on the camera. You can also buy camera straps with steel running through them to prevent a quick cut and grab.

You could be one of the first persons that I ever heard about with a concern for weight using mirrorless. You should be able to take what you have and have no fatigue at the end of the day.
Anyway, if I had what you have and I had to take only two lenses my choices would be the 7-14 and the 35-100. That should cover nicely all the subjects you could encounter. I bet the 7-14 will easily do 90% of your photography during that trip.
