Took a drive up to the Bear River Refuge last week to see what new migrants had arrived. Wettest spring I have seen there in the last 20 years...water everywhere and lots of flooded fields. They have closed the road to the refuge a couple of times lately and it just reopened the day before. It will be a long time before the farmers get in their fields! The loop road through the refuge is 14 miles and I could have spent the whole day circling once and photographing. As luck would have it, got a call to come home to fix a busted sprinkler. I had just turned the sprinklers on the day before and everything was working fine...think the leak is now fixed...keeping the fingers crossed!
Nicely done series! So many species right now. I noticed the same (including flooded road - lol) at the wildlife refuge just west of Toppenish WA.

Boy, Linda, that was quick! I think the migration is finally getting under way here...been kinda late. Several species I was hoping to see were not evident. There is so much water, and this is such a huge refuge, the birds can really be spread out. Wondering how bad the skeeters will be this summer...
Thanks for looking and commenting and hope your summer is full of good light and great subjects!
Wonderful series. I especially like the Avocet.
Great series. Beautiful birds and excellent photos.

Thank You Karin...with the variety I thought it would be good to label the perps!!
Great photos and a great series! So exciting to see spring developing! Thank you for sharing!
Nice shots, jederick. I was photographing at a wildlife refuge in my area and was seeing most of the same birds you photographed. I got a shot of a yellow-headed blackbird that almost looks like it was at the same tule patch as the one you captured.

Nice series. How fortunate to have such a wide variety of birds to photograph.
