In a recent post, boberic predicted that Canon and Nikon will merge and name the new company a combination the the two current names. Although a merger might be good, I can foresee lots of ridiculous possibilities for a new name combining "Canon" and "Nikon" - "Canikon," for example. What other undesirable names could those two names produce? Following the trend of Apple and Google, which named their photos programs "Photos," maybe the new product could be called "Camera."
I would prefer Nikanon of Canikon because I once loved my Nikons and lenses. I even had a Nikonos.
Sony founding spirits have left behind a written guideline saying, "'Always have a playful mind, and do something that others don't do.' "
What would be the guideline for the merged companies? "Keep making bulky photo cameras that make loud flapping noises!"

No. "Make high quality real cameras - large, sturdy DSLRs."

"Sony" lol!! There was a rumor that Sony and Nikon were going to merge awhile back.
I seriously doubt that Canon and Nikon would ever merge although Konica and Minolta merged a long time ago. If it happened I don't think it would be an amalgamation of the two names. It would be an entirely new name or maybe both names would be used like this camera.

Jerry, now I guess I know how you've been able to accumulate 78518 posts in only 5 & 1/2 years. Its not easy coming up with things to say when you're posting almost 40 times a day. I struggle with the 6 times a day I've posted over the last 4 years. I just did the math. If your average post took you 1.5 minutes to compose and send, that's the equivalent of posting for almost fifty 40-hour work weeks since you joined. Too bad you don't get paid for this.

I used to own a Datsun; now they call it a Nissan. Also, a Lexus by any other name is a Toyota.
