Picture for me are reminders of where I've been, I don't sell or profit from my photos. I just want to be better. Just need opinions on weather I should have highlighted the natural highlights in the patch of snow in the bottom middle of the picture.

It would be a big improvement if you brought out the details in clouds and water , and anything else you can tweek, contrast ,colors lntensity, it needs it all ,

Welcome to the forum! If you scroll down to "all sections" at the bottom of the page you'll find a formal critique forum, a less-formal and more conversational section for feedback called For Your Consideration, a post-processing forum and more.

If you are interested in receiving more in-depth feedback, click the "store original" box when you attach photos to your topic so people can download and view better than these thumbnails. Be sure to not re-size too small (best is 1000 px to 2000 px wide).

Processing is a very personal journey and much is equally liked and disliked when you ask for opinions, depending on a viewer's taste. Unless you're working for a client, the final say is yours alone.

If you wish to make the snow a noticeable part of your composition - make it important - then the lighter #1 does seem preferable.

I personally would like to talk more about this composition and ask what you were most attracted to in the scene, what did you wish to emphasize, what caused you to take the pic? It is very "busy" with a lot of small details, and my eye wanders around trying to find something significant to focus on. It also seems to be equally about the sky and the water, when often emphasizing one or the other produces a stronger story.

I have seen this used quite a bit now the question , ask yourself what atrected you to take this picture, or what inspired you to take this
Picture , I been taking pictures since the late 1950 . And that thought has never crossed my mind , I Take the pic be cause I can and I hope it will be a good one, that's the scene pic or non human , people pic there is nothing compelling me to take a photo out side of some one wants it , or i want to ,

I'm still learning about post production. For me I got what I saw, I seem to have a knack for that. Was just walking around the Bering Sea, Norton Sound to be exact, looked up and that's what I saw. I keep changing my mind, I'm going back to the first shot. Are you saying more contrast to dial in those clouds?

As I told someone else, I was walking around the Norton Sound and looked up and that is what I saw. For me the ice and clouds bring you straight to the village, though it's not highlighted. Yes it is a busy picture, sunset, ice, clouds and snow. I just shoot what I see and see what comes out when I edit them. Sometimes it's a hit, but other time it's not there. I really don't set up my shots, just walk around and try to capture the beauty that I am seeing, mostly for my eyes only.

No I'm saying what ever it takes , you have a whole list of stuff ,just add or take away , doesn't it show when your adding or taking away
Then when you get it how you want lock it and make your prints or send out ,what ever ,

That's just it, I wasn't sure if I should add the highlight or just leave it alone. I pretty much got the rest of the picture as I wanted. Love being in the Arctic, but hate trying to get pictures in the snow.

When I look at these pictures I feel an urge to see what I could do using Topaz Adjust. You should be able to get a free trial - why not give it a try? But get beyond the pre-sets; I would go for adaptive exposure adjustments and perhaps some color saturation boost.

Our photo club critics would say it lacks a clear subject. I'm guessing that the color is what tweaked your attention so do what you can to boost this feature. Maybe start with cropping up from the bottom to exclude the foreground.

That's up to you , you still have original if you like it best , when shooting snow on a sunny day , try opening up f/stop by one or more stops
As the bright snow tends to under expose the darker stuff around,
