First post from a long time viewer. Appreciate all the wisdom I've gotten from all of you posters! I do mostly landscape photography, and have an opportunity to parlay a business engagement into a 5 or 6 day trek from Miami to Key West this coming May 26. Never been there. Any photo opportunity suggestions would be appreciated. Also, would a visit to the Everglades be logistically feasible given the time constraints? Any other suggestions (lodging, dining) appreciated too! Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale we use to drive down to the keys all the time for the day, I usually went to Islamorada which is in the upper keys. Your biggest headache will be traffic. It will be well worth the trip but I would plan on staying at least one night to give yourself a chance to look around..

Everglades can be done as a day trip from the Miami area. Worth the trip.

My favorite bar is the Schooner Wharf Bar on William St.
Oh yeah, don't miss Mallory Square, lots of photo opportunities leading up to sunset.

you will want to of course visit Duval street, some of the back streets are great lots of cool houses, if u like animals, always chickens running around to shoot.
Hemmingways house is always a place to visit, plus the buoy , marking the most southern part of the US..

a day trip into the everglades is well worth it, especially if u haven't been there before. For me, Ive seen Keywest, I'd spend most of my time in the glades.

Careful of the traffic - we flew into Miami on a Friday afternoon and it took 6 hours to get to Key West. If you plan a better time it can cut that time in half, so ask around on when the traffic is the best.
Our favorite restaurant was Louie's Backyard - (no relation to the Louie's backyard in South Texas) But they were all pretty good. Key West is a super fun place and gorgeous place - you will have endless photo opportunities.

In my opinion Key West is the Provincetown of the south and even though it has history and attractions, there are much more beautiful keys to visit. Marathon and Big Pine Key are our favorites with great restaurants and non-chain places to stay. Check TripAdvisor for more details. Too many places to list here.

Be ready for any type of photography in Key West! From kitchy Duval St. to the Sunset Pier and Mallory Square, you'll see all kinds of characters, as well as colorful roosters. We were just there a few weeks back. Didn't take a lot of photos but had a good time.

Two restaurants, both on Petronia St. that I'd recommend: Bliss, and Deuce's Off the Hook. Great service and food!

Spend a couple of days in Homestead doing Everglades and Biscayne National Parks, Coral Castle and Dagney Johnson Botanical Park in Key Largo. Take your time on the Drive down US1 and then wander Key West

Interesting that no one mentioned Dry Tortugas NP which is a day trip by boat from KW. It's a great photo op with lots of great architecture shots. I spend a week in KW every April (leaving this Sunday) and have taken many photos over the 20 years we've been going there. Bring a wide angle lens.
