Thanks!

Just shut down the computer, go get something to drink and then turn it back on. If it still says it is still running that is the time to start worrying.

I had something like that one time and it was related to Lightroom mobile and syncing.
Turned that off and my computer started working like it is supposed to. Hope you find your problem. Jessie

It's kind of strange that the OS let it be uninstalled while it said it was still running. If that is what happened then the registry may have some orphaned entries in it. Run CCleaner and have it check the registry. If it finds bad entries then back up the registry and then have CCleaner delete those entries. Good luck.

Best answer!

I've been having the same issue and I don't have windows 10. Also when I am processing a shot and want full view I press F and get it but it won't go back to lightroom, just continues to show full view.

Ask him if he knows how to to open "Task Manager". He'll be able to view any incident of it running. If it is, tell him to "end task". Then reboot the computer and check to see if it has solved the issue.

That's what I have to do with SyncBack every time it offers me an update. Although I close the program, it doesn't give up its hold on the computer. SyncBack should fix that.

On the other hand, Task Manager doesn't always show that a certain program is running, although the computer thinks it is. It takes a reboot in that case.

Okay, now this is going to sound really really strange, but here goes. I had a very similar issue a while back. Tried EVERYTHING suggested by fellow learned hoggers, like you still had the same issue. I build repair upgrade computers so thought I knew what i was doing, but got really frustrated. In the end it was very simple for me. The card reader was defective, don't really know how it only effected LR, but it did. Physically disconnect the card reader, assuming you have one and able to do so in the all in one.

Restore your computer to an earlier date, before removing LR.
Reinstall what ever card or source you used to install last uploaded
pictures. LR might still be trying to verify the uploaded pictures.
Uninstall the card using the correct uninstall token wait for the
computer to say it is finished with the card and OK to remove card.
Then try removing LR again

There is a common topic about where the Lightroom preferences gets confused. When LR starts acting weird for a variety of reasons it will be suggested that you reset the preferences. There are a couple ways to do it. Victoria Brampton, the British "Lightroom Queen" and Adobe ACP has a good description of the easiest way to do it here: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

The short version is to hold down Alt and Shift (Windows) / Opt and Shift (Mac) while opening Lightroom.

To perform a complete restart of any computer, Windows or Apple, 1) shut down the computer and 2) remove power by unplugging a desktop or all-in one if ac powered or remove the battery from a laptop for 10 seconds. Reinstall the battery, if removed and turn the computer on. This can't be performed on tablets and iPads which do not have provision for removing the battery. There have been a few times when this fixed a problem for me.
This is especially recommended if you force a shutdown due to a suspected or known virus suddenly appearing on your computer.
It won't cause a problem by doing this. It's done every time you unplug a desktop.

Just a quick update. We've tried everyone's suggestions to no avail. Well, except the last two because we were at the Microsoft store where they used their software to remove LR and clear the registry but could not attempt to re-install LR because he did not take the disc. Once home, he re-installed LR but got the same error message - that it could not open because it was already open. He called Microsoft and has been on the phone with a woman in India and now a man for hours where they're trying a myriad of things, including installing the most recent version of Windows 10 (which we were pretty sure already WAS the most current). Anyway, he's still on the phone. I will post again if (hopefully WHEN) this issue is resolved. Thanks for everyone's help. The guy at the Microsoft store found the same things several of you directed us to - CClean and the Lock file but never did find anything. To say this is frustrating is an understatement.

I guess I should have waited a bit longer to reply. It's working again. I asked my s/o what they did that worked and he said they created a new catalog. They're supposed to send an email explaining that in more detail but that's all I have now. I'll copy and paste the explanation if they send it. Thanks again!
