He's a beauty, Bob. I love how you've captured all of the great details and colors of the bird by the various angles of your shots.
He seem to be enjoying your homemade suet, and I'm sure that's why he keeps coming back time after time.
Awesome shots!
Jane

Glad you stopped by, Jane! I am always a little let down when I realize that it is the buffet the birds are after and not my company!...I'll take 'em any way I can get 'em!

i love your shots of that beautiful northern yellow-shafted flicker on the suet log bob.
how high up is the log hanging? how did you get the perches to stay in?
is it hanging on your deck or on a tree limb? lots of questions...lol! how do you
keep the squirrels off of it...baffle? great job on all the shots!!!

The suet log hangs from a shepherds hook mounted on the rail of the deck...it is about eye-height when you are standing on the deck...this also places it in line with my tripod mounted camera that is in the kitchen facing out through the window. The suet log is a Cedar branch drilled all the way through for the suet...the perches are the green painted reeds sold in nurseries in about 12" lengths. I drilled holes of the proper size and then drove the perches into the hole. Holes were drilled to fit the reeds that I had. I do NOT mount perches on two of the openings...some of the woodpeckers find the "no perch" openings easier to cling to. I keep the squirrels off it (Ha!) by providing them with tons of other things to eat in the feeder area. The Raccoons have been a bigger problem...they physically take them down and haul them away...never to be seen again!. I humanely trap the raccoons and take them miles away and release them. Thanks for your interest and comments!

Angela, I'm almost always at home and I keep my camera mounted on a tripod in the kitchen. Like the IRS agent he comes absolutely unannounced and I am as thrilled as a little kid when comes by! The homemade suet is from the original recipe provided by Donna and souped up with the diced dried cranberries that you suggested. Even my seed eating Robin loves the suet!

Have a nice weekend!

Bob

I need to make up a fresh batch!!

Same to you, Bob... enjoy the weekend!!

Thank you for that detailed response bob! I love the cedar log...hope I can find one but I have plenty of pine logs that might do.
