MikieLBS Loc: "Southeast of Disorder"

The Smith Oaks rookery is in full swing this month. Now is the time to visit. The rookery is a photographers dream with 1000's of nesting bird a few feet away from walkways and platforms. These are just a few of the photos I got in a 2 hour visit. I shot them with a nikon d500 and a nikon 200-500 lens except the the landscapes. Hope you like them.

Thanks Pat! Catching these big birds landing was easy. Many times they would catch the breeze and "float" over the spot they were landing on. There were also a few flying very fast a few feet over the water right next to the camera platforms. I struggled to get a shot in fast flight but ran out of time and patience!

I only got a couple good photos of them landing. I had a lot of opportunities but most were flying away from me. I have a lot of bird rear end photos though, too many.

Thanks Jerry. This was my first visit. From what I read April is the most active month at the rookery. They also get huge amounts of multiple varieties of migratory birds. When a cold front comes thru or high winds they will land, feed and rest. It is called fallout.
