Just a couple of shots I took at the National Seashore near the space center.
Both are excellent, but I really like the first one (and I'm not a fan of modern art).
Neither am I a fan of abstract art. The first is of tangled roots and I like the 3 dimensional quality it seems to have. Thanks for your comments.
Any chance there may be some deer antlers inter-twined in the first photo? Like it.
Aren't they ALL deer antlers? Odd find at FL National Seashore!
No, the picture consisted of a tangle of roots in one of the dunes. Odd but true.
I do not wish to argue, so I will not comment beyond this, but I would like to provide the reasons for my previous comment/question. Hopefully, I can get the download to work! I am not practiced in that aspect. In my download, (a) shows a very typical abscission layer where the antler meets the boss on the skull and breaks off after the mating season. (b) shows typical antler bone weathering identical to deer, elk and moose antlers left outside. (c) shows the form of a tine. The bottom row shows three shots of standard branchings, the first two the same position on different antlers (the second in the background), the third a different one. Last, the tangle is unlike any roots I have seen in over 50 years as a biologist traveling to most of the states, and just like a pile of antlers such as you can find in Jackson Hole, WY, Denali, AK, and many places in Montana, etc. Oh, and the broken one is just like a shattered antler. What trees/shrubs would make a similar tangle in a dune situation? I am guessing that someone dumped their collection in the dunes, perhaps because FL Fish and Game determined they were illegal???? Or they were just too many to keep. (I do not know why my apostrophes come out as a/hat - I have edited them as full words.)
You obviously know considerably more than I about deer antlers. I really appreciate your input and knowledge. Apparently I stumbled upon a cash of antlers on the national seashore and assumed that they were roots of some sort. Thanks again!
