The saying goes, "you catch more flies with sugar than you do with vinegar". And then there is the Golden Rule which reminds us to treat others as we others as we would like to be treated.
There's not a lot of that going on around here....and, I know....this is the Attic. But does that really mean that all decency needs to go out the window? Personally, I'd feel not only empty if i were attacking and name-calling with every post....but I'd feel disgusted with myself. Maybe I have thin skin.
There were a few times, on a couple of different threads this week, where a few of us had actual discussions, learned a little something new about each other, and came to respect each other a little more, despite our differences of political opinion. They were positive experiences and made me feel good about myself and about them.
I might hazard a guess to say that we might even be able to hold a genuine conversation about something we disagree on...and even come around to undeatanding a bit about the opposite point of view.
Or we could just hide behind our routers and call each other names.
Opposite ends of the spectrum. Opposite results. One makes you feel bad, the other is uplifting.
It's all about choice. My choice is easy. What will you choose?

The name-calling gets old, fast... I assume for some, it is their only recourse to a fast-changing world run by crazy people and crazy runaway technology that is ruining our country. For me, it very difficult to imagine half this country as sub-human demonics trying to destroy America... we're all in this together.
...and you have provided an apt analogy for the Attic, especially considering that while flies prefer honey to vinegar.... they will flock to excrement.
I think some come here because instead of conversation, they want to show the worst parts of themself, that part they aren't allowed to show at home. They can be as disgusting as they want and somehow think they're winning. It merely shows what kind of life they really live. I'm glad I don't know those ppl in real life. Others seem like good ppl.
