Canon downgrade

Last year I upgraded from a Canon 6D to a 5D mk III, mainly for the better AF system, improved build-quality and the 1/8000th shutter speed (6D only goes to 1/4000th and I like fast lenses in bright light). Well, after a year of use, I've sold my 5D mk III and bought another 6D.

The 5D3 was absolutely everything I expected it to be, but there are two reasons for the downgrade and both are related to my favorite use of an SLR, which is very low light. First, the 6D files hold together at about a stop higher ISO (very clean 6400 compared to 3200 on the 5D3, and still usable at 12,800 instead of 6400) and the AF system, while vastly inferior for everything else, is about two-stops better in extreme low light, especially with a fast lens.

Proof that sometimes less is more. I do miss the build quality, the shutter and the 100% viewfinder accuracy, but then I'm used to the "loose" framing of a Leica rangefinder anyway and always leave a small margin of error in my compositions.

I felt that I down graded after I sold my Nikon D50 and bought a D3000. Then I got D7000. Definitely an huge upgrade.

You did. The D50 was a "semi pro" level body that progressed into the D70, D70s, D80, D90, D7000, D7100, and now the D7200.
The D3000 was part of Nikon base entry models that include the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, D3200, D3300, and now that D3400. None of these offer in camera focus motors OR any level of weather sealing.
The first step up was the D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, D5500, and now the D5600. These are also fully entry level cameras but they add a flip screen which the D3xxx models do not offer.

That has always been the advantage of the 6D over the 5D3. The new 5D4 has surpassed the 6D in all respects, but is also triple the price. The new 6D2 is finally on its way in the near future, will be very interesting to see what it's final specs turn out to be.

I gave up waiting on the 6Dmkii. Bought the 5DmkIV.

The 6D center AF point focus is excellent. The other AF points are a joke....as the OP said, 6D is better than 5DmkIII in low light IQ.

The 5DMkIV matches the 6D in low light with better DR, with a near sports level 7FPS and a phenomenal AF system....couldnt wait for the mkII ... we will see if i regret it...:-)

I was hugely tempted by the 5D4, but SLR is not my main system (main system is Leica M) so decided to go back to what worked well for me for me since 2013. I may move to a 6D my II depending on what it is and what it costs, but I'm satisfied with original 6D even 5 years after release.

The shutter lag on both the D50 and the D3000 almost drove me crazy. I was foolish enough to try shooting sports with them.
