Very cloudy day today when I captured this large bird building a nest on top of a tall tree.
Hand Held. 800mm shot. Distance was about 150 feet.

How do you get so close? Around here, nothing builds a nest so close to a road, or byway, or trail. Our GB shots are at least 1/8 mile across a beaver pond, to the rookery.

Well, 150 feet is not that close. However, the Great Blue Herons decided to build at the edge of this Fernan Lake bridge
which has good access. Their nests are on private property, but are adjacent to a paved public road with a boat launch
area about 200 feet away. Convenient.
